There was no report from Børge today, but we have confirmation that all is well. They walked 26 km today. Both were extremely exhausted at day’s end.
A while back we reported that they needed to gain one degree of latitude every six days in order to make it to the North Pole before winter. In the last couple of weeks, they have progressed far faster than that! And that’s counting the day they lost to ski repairs. Ice conditions have been excellent and Børge and Mike have put in 10–11 hours each day to gain as much ground as possible.
At their impressive rate, it suddenly no longer seems impossible to reach the he year’s first Polar sunrise at the North Pole. Taking into account their extremely difficult start, this would be a truly incredible achievement! Nevertheless it must be pointed out that their goal is very simple: to do their outmost to reach the Pole as quickly as possible, without making any reckless compromises with regard to safety.
Every single day, every waking hour, Børge and Mike continue to do their utmost under some of the most extreme conditions imaginable.
