Safe landing – and they’re on the move!

This is Børge, we have landet at 88 degrees latitude. We too off at around noon today, and after a beautiful flight, we came in for a perfect landing. The weather is magnificent!

Our position is S87˚59’58”, V95˚. We’re eager to get starte, so we’ll be skiing for two or three hours before we set up camp.

We’ll give you a more complete report this evening. Just wanted to let you know that we landed safely at our target location.

A good night’s sleep in Patriot Hills

January 8 – S80°18′, W81°21′

Yes, we’re actually in Antarctica now! Our southbound aeroplane left as planned, and after four and a half hours we touched down in Patriot Hills. We’ve eaten dinner at the base here, set up our tents and organized everything. It’s after three here, and it’s high time we got some sleep.

We are all really glad to be here. But now we’re really looking forward to some rest. Our plan is to continue by air tomorrow, weather and flight conditions permitting. But the wind isn’t quite so critical any longer, since the Twin Otters are equipped with skis and can land just about anywhere. Our originally schedule is actually still within reach.
