Friday 18th Nov, 14:40 the Ilyushin IL76 took of from Punta Arenas destined for Union Glacier in Antarctica. Flight time estimated to 4 hours and 30 min.
If the adrenaline level goes down a bit our guess is that most will try to sleep a bit.

The Russian bird is waiting
12:30 Chilean time the call came. ‘Be ready in 20 minutes, we are cleared to go for Antarctica! This was a huge relief as nothing happened 06:30, at 09:30 they were told the next call was at 11:00. Still nothing as the staff at Union Glacier monitored the weather.
Now they will check out of Chile, board the plane and wait in suspense for the last update that comes as they wait on the runway. Stay tuned!
Camping close to the edge / Camp i randsonen
Friday morning: yesterday they continued down the glacier and camped pretty close to the point were they plan to leave it for good. To ease the going they left half the stuff in the previous camp. This they will pick up today before attempting to go all the way down to the pick-up area by the fjord. Than they will use 2 days retrieving the rest. All in all they plan on 5 exciting days in the steep rainforest.

Thursday morning: Yesterday was a real roller coaster. The weather held out and even though they did not get very far, the day was a lot of fun and spectacular.
They reached the first nunataq in style. Then climbed over it before aiming to cross over a side glacier. They did not get across, but after lots of up and down and roping up most of the day with some fun rappels, they were happy to tent out on the ice one more time.
