Impressive First Day
Great beauty, great progress!
Camp 2, Saturday morning: Yesterday was baptism. They worked on routines and packed the camp down. Then they were off in great weather and good conditions. Bent was very impressed as the team found their feet surprisingly fast. In just a few hours they were up to speed and moving along very well. Even semi white-out later in the day did not distract them. It made for nearly no contrast and a huge challenge for the balance. But by camp they had covered some 18 kilometres! Even Mother Nature must have been impressed as she rewarded them with a well-done bonus; they drifted some 5.3km in the right direction.
There is every sign that the team is a happy one. There is a lot of laughter, joking and fun. Arne has, from what we understand, taken a leading role in that respect. But it is hardly wrong to have the dry, British sense of humour as a sparing partner in Dave. –
They woke up this morning at N89°13,3’ E163°58’
A big cheers from the team up there to all of us down here.
