The Arctic Ocean is perhaps man’s toughest challenge: extreme and cruel cold, churning pack ice, bottomless leads and the hungry, ever-prowling polar bears, Sea-mist, wind and ceaseless currents. Up there, an inferno of threatening elements lies in wait.

In 1895 Fridtjof Nansen and Hjalmar Johansen had to battle against all this, from the time they left the ice-bound Fram and headed for the North Pole, until they miraculously arrived at Vardø the following year. The story has enthralled people for more than a century, and continues to do so today.

Now Børge Ousland and Thomas Ulrich have followed in the footsteps of Nansen and Johansen, from the North Pole, through Franz Josef Land, across the Barents Sea and on to Oslo.

Both stories are told here by the man who knows the Arctic Ocean better than anyone else. Two expeditions with the same aim. This is a 40 minutes long film about Thomas Ulrich and Børge Ousland's epic crossing of the Southern Patagonia Icecap. No one had managed to do this without resupply before. In August 2003 they started from the village Tortel with two kayaks each and paddled towards the glacier. When the fjord ended they had to carry all the equipment up to the ice edge. From here they skied, climbed, rappelled and paddled across the entire icecap, all the way to Puerto Natales. The film also contains clips from the reconnaissance trip the year before.

ALONE ACROSS ANTARCTICA 1997

It was one of the last great challenges. Since 1915 adventurers, explorers and polar travelers have dreamed about crossing Antarctica with no outside support. Many tried, and just as many failed. Børge Ousland had also failed. (1995)
More and more people had this dream. In November 1996 polar travelers from four nations stood at the edge of the ice in Antarctica with the dream in their eyes. Never had there been a greater race to the world's outermost point. Only one man succeeded.

Alone to The North Pole 1994

He wanted to be the first to walk alone to the North Pole without being re-supplied; to manage what everybody thought was impossible.
