Børge Ousland – Against all odds
This inspiring and thought-provoking lecture consists of three parts:
Global warming: On their voyage through Frans Josef Land in 2007, Børge Ousland and Thomas Ulrich documented dramatic changes in ice thickness changes and in the unveiled landscape – changes that can only be caused by global warming.
Since 1994, Børge has carried out ice thickness measurements for the Norwegian Polar Institute. With more than 20 years experience as an Arctic adventurer, he has become an important eyewitness to the accelerating climate changes.
To stand alone: Børge is the only person who has carried out solo crossings of Antarctica and the frozen Arctic Sea and North Pole. He has proven that “the impossible” can be achieved. Børge shares his recipe for how to withstand challenges alone, how to face even the harshest conditions on Earth.
Teamwork: In 2006 Børge Ousland and Mike Horn became the first people to reach the North Pole on an unsupported expedition during the Arctic winter darkness. This is one of the most technically difficult expeditions that have ever been carried out to the North Pole. Børge shares the story of how two strong-willed and very different individuals managed to focus all their energy on the teamwork that was required for their expedition to succeed.
