Requirements for the Patagonia expedition

Technical: All participants should be familiar with ice climbing and crevasse rescue techniques, the use of ropes, ice-screws and ice-axes, and be able to stop a fall with their axe. For large stretches of our expeditions, we will be on a rope as we ski or walk the ice.

NB. We can help to book a suitable glacier-training course for those who lack such experience.

Physical: Participants must be able to pull a sled weighting up to 60 kg when skiing, and carry a 20 kg backpack on foot. This expedition’s level of difficulty can be compared with a crossing of Greenland. However, technically the route is somewhat more difficult than a Greenland or Antarctica expedition. Weather conditions tend to be more extreme than in Greenland.

The price includes logistics, food and accommodation from the time we arrive in Coihaique until our return to this town. Also included is general equipment such as skis, ropes, tents, sled and supplies. Not included is personal clothing, personal climbing equipment (such as crampons, boots, karabiners, ice-screws, ice-axes etc.) backpacks, sleeping bags, insulation pads, waterproof bags and insurance. Airfare to and from Coihaique is not included.
