Itinerary
THE CENTENNIAL LAST DEGREE EXPEDITION
• You will have to both train and prepare well for this expedition. 110km at 3000 meter altitude in – 30°C is to be take seriously. But together we will cater for that and give you an experience of a lifetime.
• 1st December 2011 we will meet up in Punta Arenas, Chile, for the last preparations and a unique lecture: Explorers view of Amundsen, his voyage and his contribution to Polar exploratin.
• 3rd December we will fly into the Union Glacier camp where we will prepare and acclimatise for the expedition. When we are ready and the weather permits, we will fly out to our drop of point and start the trek south. We will pull 40kg sledges and camp in tents.
• 14th December we will (according to plan) reach the Geographical South Pole – and celebrate. It will not be the calmest way to reach the Pole, as this will be one of the biggest gathering of explorers, fame and enthusiasts ever. But would you miss that?
• 15th December we will fly back to Union Glacier camp.
• 16th December we will fly back to Punta Arenas in Chile and proceeded home.
• Price: US $ 52.500,- (to be confirmed)
THE AMUNDSEN MEMORIAL EXPEDITION
• This is a full on expedition. You must have an adventure CV or proof that you have what it takes to participate. We will do it our (Norwegian) way and there will be mandatory prep camps. You will have both to train hard, put on weight and prepare well for this expedition. But then we can guarantee you will be proud reaching the very South Pole along the route Amundsen did!
• At the beginning of November 2011 we will meet up in Punta Arenas, Chile, for the last preparations.
• Some days later we will fly into the Union Glacier Camp in Antarctica.
• When we are ready and the weather permits, we will fly a very long flight over the plateau and out to our drop-off point on the Ross Ice Shelf outside of the Axel Heiberg Glacier. This was Amundsen’s entrance to the plateau, and the scenery is mind-blowing. But the going is tough, as we must negotiate crevasses and deep snow while climbing.
• Before reaching the Polar Plateau we will climb Peak Nansen (4070m). It has only been climbed once before!
• Then our trek continues south. We will start with 70kg sledges and camp in tents.
• 14th December we plan on reaching the South Pole – and celebrate.
• 15th December we will fly back to Union Glacier camp.
• 16th December we will fly back to Punta Arenas in Chile and proceed home.
• Price: US $ 75.000,- (to be confirmed). We are aiming to build up a package of substantial support & preparations with several meetings building up to departure. We want interest registrated imminently and the chosen team to commit by Easter.
