Lars – yearning for adventure

For Lars Ebbesen, travel and adventure has always been a vital aspect of life. His major journeys and expeditions include: 15 months around Asia, nine tours to the Andes and Aconcagua, various trips in South America and the Caribbean, a handful of explorations on Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya, as well as twelve expeditions on the Greenland ice sheet (with pulk, dog sledding and even ski-sail!). He has skied Spitsbergen from north to south, headed north on the frozen Arctic Ocean (though he did not reach the North Pole), he has paddled in Greenland, on the Finnmark Plateau, and in Asia; twice Lars has crossed the Atlantic Ocean, he has been on a rafting adventure in the Grand Canyon, explored the Siberia and the Kola Peninsula. He organised and joined Cato Zahl Pedersen and Odd Harald Hauge for an unsupported expedition from Berkner Island to the South Pole. And it is also worth mentioning that he keenly appreciates the amazing energy of New York!

In 1997, Lars established Hvitserk, an operator of expeditions and extreme tours, together with Sjur Mørdre and Martin Gudbrandsgård. It quickly became leader in its chosen field, offering adventures to Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua, and Greenland crossings. Eventually their offerings included the ascent of 8000-meter peaks, and expeditions to the North and South Pole. In 2005 Hvitserk merged with Eventyrreiser (Adventure Tours), and Lars decided to concentrate fully on the planning, preparation and monitoring of extreme tours – this time teaming up with Børge Ousland.

As a professional graphic designer, he has played a key role in the publication of numerous adventure books on the Arctic, on Greenland, explorers Børge Ousland, and Rune Gjeldnes, the Swedish North Pole Express, Mount Everest, climbing – and more recently a book with Odd Harald Hauge. For ten years ago he published the colourful and highly entertaining Hvitserk Calendar.

Lars’ tendency toward the extreme is also exemplified in his family life – he and his wife Tove have a pair of very active twins. As a result his own adventures have been toned down, but only slightly – Lars works closely with Børge to offer you some of the most exciting expeditions on the planet.
