First campsite in the wild

Report from Ingebjorg, 2nd August.

Our position:

N 78 23.674, E 16 50.178

We started out at noon. Jackie and Steve’s plane arrived late, at 5am so they did not sleep much and were quite tired.

So we prepared everything and made ready to leave on our sailing vessel, which we did at noon. Arrived to this position at 14.30 and having been a long and hard day we decided to set up camp and stay the night. Especially since it was a bit rough at sea. Nice weather, but wind out of the S-SW, facing right against us, and quite heavy!

Once we had set up camp we went out for a walk up the mountain. Very nice, amazing views towards the glacier on this little walk!

2nd August

We had dinner and coffee and prepared for the night. Polar bear guard will be on Norunn, Elisabeth and me so that Jackie and Steve get a full night rest tonight. It will mean a few more hours but there’s clear ski, some sunshine and we hope it will be a beautiful night so it’s more than fine.

As we sailed around icebergs we saw some seals as well today, so it’s been a great start to our trip!

Regards to all from Spitsbergen in the Arctic!!!
