going down

Published 13.09 in category Greenland Fall 2015
We can finally feel that we are going down towards the coast. The snow and the weather were amazing through out the day and we did our new distance record – 30 km!

We could almost not feel the weight of our pulkas and the skies sledded  smoothly. We are swiftly approaching the ice fall with the blue ice.

Ideally we would like to stay on snow all the way down, but we know that is not going to happen. Now we are at 1500 meters above sea level and can see blue ice sticking up from the snow. We passed numerous frozen meltwater lakes and rivers. The rivers are full of water and their turquise blue surface were easy to cross. It seems like they froze up in a sudden cold spell few days ago when we too were experiencing cold nights further up the ice cap.

So far we havent seen any open water and we hope the cold took care the water further down the icefall in a similar way!
