the cool-school of polar training with the real polar guides

As part of the preparations, we organize a series of training weekends. This school is at Finse, in Norway. They take place in march, and they are highly professional. The training is voluntarily but highly recommended. This will help you and us to evaluate your assumptions and to put focus on the key points for further exercise and practice.

WHEN:

11 march is the starting date for the first training weekend at Finse. We start on Thursday 11 march, and head back on Sunday 14 march.

WHERE:

The Finse area is remote, and a kinder-egg for winter polar training. Easy to get to as you can just jump on a train from Oslo or Bergen, and ski off when you leave the train at Finse. Our training starts here. Hardangervidda is a popular place for polar training, and the history for polar training here goes far back in time, even Roald Amundsen used Hardangervidda as training. He later stated that the trip over Hardangervidda was as exhausting and dangerous as his conquest of the South Pole. Fortunately, Leon, Roald’s brother, was participating in the trip and he luckily managed to saved Roald from certain death.

COST and what it covers:

The cost you can see at the top of the page. Maximum 6 person per weekend.
The special thing with our training weekend is that you will learn from real Polar Guides. And there is not much our guides hasn´t been trough out there!

We will cover all of the basic equipment, breakfast and dinner, pulkas, tents, etc. But you bring your own personal equipment (clothes, skis, poles, boots, sleeping bag and mattress). Part of the idea is to go through all you have to be sure your stuff can do the job.

You also need to cover your flight tickets / travel to coming here. If you want to arrive early or leave later you also have to cover food and lodging before and after the training (during the training the nights will be spent in tents outdoors).

Program:

The aim is to go through the basic skills for winter survival in order to be as well prepared as possible. We go through all the equipment, techniques, navigation and routines inside and outside the tent. When the winds really pick up, at what wind speed do you pitch camp? and how do you do that if there is already a storm? the questions never ends, but on this polar training you will get to ask us of every trick and tips we have. And of course, we cook, make safe camps and enjoy tentlife out there :-). During this training weekend you will be offered a single tent, you will be offered one to one talk with our guide, you will get the most out of it with our small groups.

This is also a great time to go to the sport shop, since some of the equipment needed for trips like this can be hard to find outside Norway. We can assist you with this as well, and we got some sweet deals that you can be a part of when joining this training weekend.

More info on the training trip and equipment list will be distributed when signing up for one of our polar training weekend.
