towards the icefall

Published 11.09 in category Greenland Fall 2015

Today we made another 25 km under the blue sky. The DYE 2 has disappeared from the horizon behind us and we are skiing northwest towards the icefall.

The icefall is the place where the ice cap decends steeply to the icefree ground. The ice there can flow fast and is greatly affected by the summer melt. The last few nights were clear and cold with temperatures around -20. Was this enough to freeze up the icefall? Or is it still a labyrint of smal creeks and meltwater rivers?

We still have a couple of days on the plateau and we are crossing our fingers for more cold weather.
